feng_shui_house: me at my computer (Birds)

I went to Amelia Earhart park on Dec. 3. It didn't have the variety of critters I saw last time (among other things the farm animals are either gone, or they locked them up in the barn before 3:30pm). So mostly I have bird photos.

White Ibis

Florida Gallinule -- I like the way the shadow on the water looks.

Thanks! I did try to catch as many of them as I could- I love lighting/shadow/reflection effects.

Your Florida Gallinule looks like a very warm water version of the Moor Hens I took a picture of in the snow at Kew last week.

Yes, the Fla. Gallinule is closely related to the Moor Hen. It's not far enough apart to be a different species, but is the North American race. I think there are subtle differences in the red face shield, but I'm not sure.

Very cool! I particularly like #1 and #3. #6 is nice, too, but I felt that the action in #1 trumped #6. #3 is like a glamour shot! :D

Wow - the ibis is really an iconic bird here!
However that picture with a little Gallinule is stunning!

The ibis is very much at home in the park- a nasty little boy ran at a group of them, shouting, and they just moved out of his way without bothering to fly off.

The gallinules are shyer, and tend to stay much longer in the water- I think their long, thin toes feel better walking on mud. :^)

I love the reflections in the water, too. The Ibis are so beautiful. I love the colouring on the first Gallinule.
