My last electric bill with Ken here all the time was $283.66 of which he generously paid half --$162.
The bill after that, where he'd been sleeping at the hotel for a few days was $277 (of which he paid none.)
This month's bill, which included 5 days he'd been here, was $123. (And yes, it's been just as hot.)
He had the nerve to wonder how I'd pay the utility bills without him here. Well, judging from this, I'm going to be spending $50 a month less just on the power bill.

Also, the Window co. woman called (at 6:30pm) to put off Alex's visit till Friday. I'm getting fairly cheesed off here.

Some people just seem to use unbelievable amounts of resources with no effort at all. I had something like that happen. Water bills are per building in our area...they're a lien on the house, so you're supposed to just pass it along in the rent to any tenants. The last water bill from our two previous tenants was over $350/quarter. When our current tenant moved in, it was $150. So we thought - OK, just one person down there now. But when he got a roommate , the bill went up to a whopping $157.

Honestly, what were the old tenants doing to use all that water? Bathe in it?

Maybe they liked to do laundry whenever they had a dirty pair of sox.

Ken was funny. If I left the room to get something I'd come back & the light would be off, & I'd get a lecture on how much it was costing HIM because of my wastefulness. But if he went off for the day to visit a friend, his A/C had to run all day long so it'd be comfortable on his return.

What was he doing to consume all that electricity? Thought the AC is definitely a power hog. I guess it's been really hot there?

It's been hot for so long I've forgot what cool feels like, so I do run ONE A/C, the one in my computer room.

Ken'd go around turning them on in other rooms besides his own. Also he has a little fridge to keep his beer cool. And the big screen TV. And his computer. And he was big on laundry- he'd wash three times a week.

Well no wonder. You'll be saving lots of money when he leaves then.

*nods* He also liked to run a stupid little pump to drain the swimming pool every time it rained. I kept telling him not to do it- I'd rather leave it alone until it can be fixed- it's not smelly, and the tadpoles keep it from being a mosquito breeding pond. He'd run it for DAYS and tell me, oh, it doesn't use much electricity.

It was sad, the poor tadpoles got sucked up before they could become frogs. You'd like frogs, Anna. You pat them and they jump.

They jump? That sounds like fun! *meows excitedly*

They're great fun! They jump and they make noises and they climb walls!

*MEOW* Then bad ken brother should not have sucked them up. Maybe he didn't know they are so much fun?

Ken doesn't think like a cat. But there are froglets now! One of them was walking on the wall. So pretty and tiny, gold-green and shiny with lovely round toes.

Wow, he used a heck of a lot of electricity!

My grocery bill has plummeted, too. The only thing he honestly went halves on was the internet connection. It's worth paying the whole thing not to hear him constantly complaining about it and demanding I run speed tests and complain to the company, etc.

I'm so happy for you that he is gone now. *dances jig* (even though I don't know how)

Ha, you are obviously going to be so much better off now. Ken will be in for a shock when he has to pay all the bills for his new home and has no one else to blame!

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if his bills will be smaller than mine, despite his waste. The electric company in Hellholeah has added at least 3 hidden'storm surcharges' which I pay even if I don't use any power at all.

The 'public service commission' gives them whatever they want. After one hurricane in which many people were left without power for more than a month, due to the power company *deliberately* doing no maintenance on the poles for 20+ years, the public service commission allowed them to charge people the same bill they would have got a year earlier, on the basis that if the power company didn't show a profit every month they might go out of business and then people would be without power.

Right. People were charged for power they never got.

How can they do that!? I guess the government doesn't help then?

p.s. the next chapter is up

Basically, Hellholeah's area is run like a banana republic. The corruption and incompetence is everywhere, at all levels.

Eee! New Fic! Thanks!
