Naart Day 2

I grabbed a box that had held cat food cans, a bottle of Elmer's glue, and a box full of rotted thread I'd cut off cones. And I messed about gloriously, pretty much at random, to create this 'Well Dressing' (although I can't use it, my swimming pool does have a well beside it.)

And I finally figured out the self-timer on my old camera, so here I am wearing yesterday's Naart. I need to practice smiling, no one but me ever realizes that's what I'm doing. :^)

I can tell you're smiling, your cheek muscles are up. :~)

Yay. :^) Next time I'll try showing teeth. :^E)

Ooh ... I like wells ... can we have a post of a photo please?

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, the well is invisible- it is entirely underground as it was dug specifically to be used for the swimming pool.

Aha - what we (and especially [livejournal.com profile] garienos would call a Bore Hole.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, I didn't know there was another word for it. :^) I do so wish the pool refit guys would have used it instead of making me fill the pool with city water by my garden hose. I dread my water bill...eeee...

*tries to restrain self*
*fails*

Well done! :D

Thanks. :^)

Butterflies! <3

Your day one Naart is superbly colourful and AWESOME! What did you use? I'm thinking paint of some kind but squinting makes me thinking it could be thread too (but that might just be because I've been staring at your day 2 art just before it!)

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I love butterflies. :^)

Day one started out with a multi-colored cotton 'conversational' print of dyed Easter eggs highlighted with gold. I backed it with iron-on interfacing to stiffen it a bit, then pinned it on the shirt covered by a paper printout of the lettering design. Then I straight stitched over the design, and then ripped off the paper and trimmed the fabric around the outer stitching (this was the nervous part, because it would be very easy to cut the shirt as well as the applique). Then I machine satin stitched (close zig-zag) around each of the letters in this order blue, red, green, orange... repeat. So there IS stitching- but it's mostly covered up, because it didn't show well enough, so I then used fabric paint (the kind in little squeeze bottles) to make rounded and more visible lettering.

Wow! I love your string art box! And yesterday's shirt looks great.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :^)

That's an instantly recognisable smile! It's very like one of mine, which has occasionally been read as exasperation; sigh). The t-shirt looks great too.

I like the flowers and butterflies! Why a 'well dressing' though?

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
:^) No one recognizes our Sekrit Smiles.

I was googling 'Well Dressings' a few weeks ago-- I'm not sure who on my flist had been discussing them. I know [livejournal.com profile] quarryquest has mentioned them, but so have a few other people.

I liked the idea because it combines art, crafts, magic, and euphemeria (they're commonly made of flower petals pressed into clay set in a box, and only last a few days, at best, even if they sprinkle them with water daily.) And I figured it would be sort of like 'blessing the pool' now that it's functional.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, gotcha! Perhaps you could make one with earth and flowers! We used to make 'gardens' like that, with bits of mirror as pools. :-)

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-02 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
At the moment I don't have any flowers. *pooh* I'm glad I took lots of pics of the moss roses & zinnias while I had them.

OOooooo, this is a feast of colours and shapes and it is fluffy - the combination I am in love with! It is wonderful!
And - it is definitely great to see you and in that super t-shirt of yours!
To NAARMAMO with you! :-)

Thank you! :^)

how sweet!

Not nearly enough of that sort of thing going on over here. We should make a well dressing for [livejournal.com profile] ilv2laff's new place.
