Silent screams make my throat sore

Lack of communications outlet makes me ramble.
Comcast guy came by (I had to shoo away the pathetically sick old outside cat and my too affectionate housecat had to be locked up cuz he has a terror of cats). He said the new modem was bad. I called Comcast and got a tech to recommend two approved non-Motorola modems (phone went staticky so that was difficult).
I found Amazon's cust. service # and arranged for return/refund. Luckily was able to get email link for page which sLooowly opened to print up mailing label. Went back to Amazon & looked up both recc'd modems- both are MUCH slower than the speed I'm paying for and both had many bad customer reviews (a lot the same problems I have now). Looked up the *negative* Amazon cust. reviews on my motorola surfboard SB6120 & discovered that MANY people could not get them to work with Comcast because the firmware can be incompatible and even if you CAN get on-line at all there is no way to download a firmware fix.
Googled desperately, and slowly, and found various forums discussing the Motorola/Comcast problems- apparently Many of this model won't work with Comcast- particularly if you buy it on-line (maybe because you're more likely to get old stock with old firmware?) They said IF you could physically take your modem to an area that had JUST THE RIGHT Comcast ...I dunno... protocol? You could get it on-line and let it stay on for an hour or so and it would pick up the new firmware. Uh huh. Yeah, a Comcast tech told someone and he drove to his sister's house in another town and it worked. So not helpful to me. Even if I knew where a magic spot was, I wouldn't know anyone there, and have no way to get there.
Googled and read Amazon modem reviews until my eyeballs got so dry I couldn't focus. I found NO DOCSIS 3 (the high speed ones Comcast TOLD me I should get back in May) modems which were both on the Comcast approved list and which didn't have MANY customers saying they had the same problems I did.
One person explained the problem very clearly and said the model of Modem he'd got which he was happy with. It's not on the Comcast approved list, but I considered buying it-- BUT Amazon had only ONE, at $200, and looking at reviews some people had the same problem!!
I am barely able to post. I am having to resend tiny email twice and three times. I have no fingernails, and my cat is dead. My lawn is jungly and prob. very inviting to burglars passing in the night. I had another bellyache today because I had the jitters so bad I risked a cup of coffee (works like Ritalyn for me). Mac is definitely going to be doing SOMETHING this fall (any minute) which you need to sign up for or lose your email (My ONLY EMAIL, My email what's registered to EVERYTHING ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET WORLD and I don't remember hardly any of the passwords, even) and I don't know if I'll be able to even HEAR about it when it happens. My good taxi driver is probably in the hospital with the kidney stones (I do so hope the poor man recovers). I am missing out on lots of internet stuff I've got committed to/was hooked on.
So... *headdesk*. Tomorrow I'm gonna call Motorola (If my phone works) and see if THEY will fix the new modem. If they will, then great- If I have to I'll WALK the mile and a half to the post office to mail it to them (well, no, I'm pretty sure I could use Priority Mail pickup). If not, then I'll send it back to Amazon and I guess I'll ask Comcast to rent me one of their SLOW AND CRAPPY modems. *weeps* I'm ...so... very... very... tired...
