Still trying to get computer stuff handled.

On the bright side, I did get my SnapNDrag screenshot application from my external drive, and it works. Got upgraded ($80) Photoshop Elements 13 (previously I was using... 1 and then 3, so... way different & looks like some things vanished, but still, it works even though I do NOT KNOW WHAT the HECK I'm doing). Today I found a copy of the photoshop extra plugins I'd harvested over the years- with luck they will work, haven't tried to install them.)

Also finally managed to change the passwords on the two things I was most concerned about, Paypal and Amazon. Paypal's linked to my checking account & Amazon has my credit card stored. The Paypal was several hours of frustration because it was so old I'd forgot EVERYTHING except that it existed.

Got an email tonight from the scanner tech giving instructions to MAYBE get it to work. Also got an email from an old (last updated 2004) website I discovered recently for playing with the 17 plane symmetry groups (to make designs)
http://escher.epfl.ch/escher/

It no longer works for me because the latest Java requires security coding the site doesn't have. The designer said they're working on it, so MAYBE Maybe someday.

I put in my old Lineform from the box, and it looked like it worked BUT it was the 30 day trial version and even if I could find the code I got when I paid, the link to the registration site no longer works. I found a forum that discussed it and gave a link to a download version that they say doesn't require registration, but when I tried to open the Dmg the computer warned me it 'wasn't trusted' and I looked and looked and reluctantly the computer let me find a way to force it to trust it, but it had all these warnings of terrible things and I chickened out. (I really do THINK it's safe- it has the creators name on it, and it's such a obscure program I doubt a bad guy would ever stumble across it to mess it up. But MAYBE I'll look to see if there's a way to contact the creator for assurances that the DL is actually one they put there.)

I tried a different vector program- Inkscape, which I hadn't used because everyone who'd tried both liked Lineform better. Well, Inkscape said, sure, but you need to have X11, and I'd seen something called that on the computer so I clicked it and it WASN'T X11 it was a notice that Mac wasn't developing it any more, but you could go here and get it. So I tried THAT and it said sure, click here, and I did and got a DMG and when I clicked on THAT it said, go into the Terminal program and-- a whole list of instructions written in computer gabble--SO I found the Terminal program and put in the first line very carefully, watching the capitalization, the spacing, the front and back slashes-- AND it said WARNING WARNING WILL ROBERTSON! Using this command CAN FUCK UP YOUR SHIT REAL BAD. (only not in those words)

SO I CHICKENED out again. *SIGH*

Can't find any reasonably priced vector programs for this mac/system (iMac 21.5 inch Mid 2011 system10.9.5) so maybe I'll get brave later and try to Trust the Lineform DMG.

Ok, tomorrow I want to try to go to the data retrieval place. *fingers crossed*
