So, Hurricane Irma is on the way to me. Current tracking prob. is Sunday afternoon around 2pm, with windspeeds about 130 mph.

Been doing what hurricane prep I could, and am tired. ;^) Still have more to do, but need to rest. *flumph* Was going to post to AO3, forgot they're doing maintenance.

My relatives on the west coast have cleared out, but my aunt is 87 years old and my cousins live on a canal-front block, so it's just as well.

Please do update when you can. I feel kind of useless on this side of the planet, but don't hesitate to ask if there is anything I can do, such as sending parcels when it's over if there are things you can't get locally.

*nods* If you live near the water, you really must evacuate. You know how far my house is from Miami Beach! It's a ride.

Probably I'll need electricity when it's over. How long an extension cord do you have? :^)

If I can, I'll update after the storm. If I can't, but I can at least telephone, I'll phone and ask Z to comment on this (or if I post a later one) giving you guys my status.

Brooklyn Lanterns are the BEST, maybe I can send you some (and some batteries) when the mail resumes but the power doesn't, or so you'll be set up for next year.

Oh, they look neat! I've got a Rayovac twin tube fluorescent camp lantern. I like it a lot, but I always forget to buy D batteries for it. I've got some now. :^)

Latest projection isn't very comforting- it shows the storm predicted at 150! mph when it makes landfall by me, and the next mark is 105 mph hundreds of miles further on. Yikes.

Thanks! I was just out picking up stuff in the front yard and assessing the backyard- if it's too heavy /too buggy to bring into the house I've been trying to nudge it against the base of trees or house, anything to make it less likely to be caught by wind.

Thinking of you and hoping you won't suffer too much damage. Saw an official on TV talking about public shelters - are there any near you if it's looking really bad?

They opened 43 shelters, but the shelters are pretty much already filled to capacity- it's basically just offering a roof- you have to bring your own food and water and bedding.

If you have a well built house, not in one of the evacuation ordered areas, you're better off staying at home, rather than be like some people going from shelter to shelter and being turned away because they're all full.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm hoping enough good thoughts will weaken the storm. Worth hoping, anyway. :^)

I'll reply to her most recent post as well, but I got a call from our lovely Marian and she's doing fine. She's without power, but she's got a roof over her head. So, yay!!
