"Not another alien in a ship in distress," Avon protested.

"The readings indicate a single life-form; an infant." Blake looked at Avon.

"It's probably a mature specimen of carnivorous, mind-controlling, metamorph." Scowling, Avon operated the teleport.

Blake reappeared holding a squirming bundle wrapped in brightly colored, shining blankets. "He looks human."

Avon moved close to peer at the chubby-cheeked infant. Bright blue eyes gazed back at him from under a tousle of thick, black hair. Giggling, the baby grabbed Avon's nose. Avon gave a muffled scream.

Blake looked at the name tag on the blanket. "Let go of Avon, Kal-el."
