feng_shui_house: me at my computer (Default)
Ok, the AT&T guy showed up a bit after 9am (sorry I didn't note the time). He didn't know what he was to do (obv. they just gave him my address & that it was a morning call). I told him. And I showed him. And I asked the price. (The guy who comes will tell you the price.) Uhuh. He didn't know. I said I really would like at least an IDEA. He called someone, talked for 5 min. They didn't know. They told him call someone else. Another 5 minute. They didn't know. He called a third person, once more explained the job in detail... another 5 min. and they tell him its based on TIME. So I get to pay for the time he spent on the phone trying to find out the price!

Then he told me I should have just CUT the wire myself and called in for a repair and claimed I had no idea how the damage occurred and it would be a free repair.

So. Honesty and patience and trying to do things right costs a lot, but lying and cheating is what made America what it is today! Which is... um... #37 in Health Care worldwide, but #8 in Giraffe Production! Yay, go giraffes... *sigh* We were #7 for a while yesterday, but patriotic Netherlanders blitzed us with multiple submissions of tiny giraffes.

11am he is just now leaving. I have a dial tone. But no one to call...hmm... maybe I'll call my brother in Arizona.

Talked to bro in Arizona- connection was fine. Bro is going this aft. to talk to his attorney & then tomorrow going to the deposition to get the ball rolling on trying to get back some of the money he invested with the guy who sold him a house. *NOTE* NEVER, EVER, do secondary deals totally unrelated to the original. When someone sells you an item/contracts to do a service, it is quite common for them to try to talk you into a sideline of theirs personally, nothing to do with the company. The sideline is ALWAYS a bad deal at best, often a scam, and sometimes a complete, heartbreaking rip-off.

Getting up early & then dealing with telephone repair guy wiped me out, so I napped. And as is often the case with me, I woke up with the germ of a fic idea, and lay there until I could work it up into something usable.

Short & mostly harmless. )
