feng_shui_house: me at my computer (Default)
Last night my internet conked out right after I said hello to my Partner in Crime. Comcast told me it would be fixed soon, but prob. not before my bedtime. So I phoned PiC with the sad news, and, as you do, sat by the computer prodding the internet every half minute. After a while I grew bored, and missing my B7 'fix', decided to try to make a text pic (overlay type on a photo which has been reduced to a few shades of gray & then cut the shades into separate layers & use that as templates to cut the text and then apply 'stroke' to variably thicken the text in each layer to an appropriate darkness.) This used up a lot of time in part because I decided to write a story on top of the photo based on the photo. I did it all in dialogue because... well... it seemed right.

It did not work out because I forgot several important things. Like spacing the text close together. And not choosing a pic which had too much detail. Still... I had a pretty pic snaffled from [livejournal.com profile] marah_sarie and a story to match.

This morning I still had no internet. Called Comcast & went through 26 button pushes to get to a woman who had no record of there EVER being an outage and told me that my modem was at fault and I should disconnect it from the coax. Not the power. I asked her to verify. Yes, not the power. I disconnected, waited as prescribed, reconnected. Nothing. She said she could schedule a tech and they'd replace the modem. I told her I had my own, since they'd kept giving me broken ones. She said well, then, it'll cost you $30. For a tech to tell me my modem's broken. And not fix it. I said, you're sure unplugging the power & replugging wouldn't help. OH, NO, we reset the modem already. So I said, No thanks and hung up, disconnected the POWER and went to fix a cup of tea. Came back 5 min later, replugged and I'm good to go.

Comcast SUKS.

Anyway, I think I'll buy me a new modem soon, just in case. This one is several years old. But in the meantime, have a tiny bit of fic.

YAY!

Since I felt too weak and maidenly-swoony to go out, I stayed and did bugger-all (rereading all the factoids I've picked up on DV trying to think of requests for the ficathon doesn't count as productive- particularly all the times I stopped to reread a fic by Shimere...) every once in a while checking the permitage hanging from the front door to see if the Zoning Inspector had done a Stealth Inspection. Around 1PM it occurred to me that the only real objection was the easement encroachment, so, just in case the inspector hadn't seen the Utilities' Letters of Non-Objection that I'd spent more than a month getting, I printed up copies (yes, I scan all this stuff) and put the printouts in a separate baggie.

Giving up on consciousness later, Thomas and I laid down together. He washed my arm, I stroked his tail. We slept. And I awoke to find that my copies had been turned around in the bag and a ZONING FINAL PASSED remark written on the permitage.

YAY. It was after office hours, but I called PoolGuy anyway to leave a message. I spoke to him and he said he'd call tomorrow to ask for an appt. for the Building Inspection. He thinks that one will be cake. I hope, I hope. My arms ache and my feet burn, but my heart is light.

Well, since I wasn't up to anything productive, I faffed about for ages with this. This time you can, if you squint, make out the image.
