This morning of Oct. 6, 2011 I was awakened abruptly, and so I remembered my dream. I'm posting this just because I want to post something. LJ is terrible for me today & I'm not even sure a pure text post will make it. I ran speedtest.net again just now and ping 6/ download 21.39MB and after 13 minutes of waiting, it told me the Upstream was .09. Now, while I could imagine the fault lay in the modem if both results were abysmal, the fact that the download is far faster than it should be (they finally told me my service should be 12MB for both up and downstream) doesn't seem like something a faulty modem could do- mess up one side bad, and give the goodies to the other??

Had found the number 215-665-1700 by googling corporate headquarters & was pleasantly surprised to get a human operator who quickly switched me to an assistant of the office of the president. I tried to boil down the details of the saga, giving what few facts I have (dates/speedtest results/guy on pole/tech visits/new modem/Motorola/splitter/failed phone calls/ neighbor messed up same time as me. etc/) Trina said she'd call the regional office & they'd call me back. And if I don't hear from them, I can call her again. She gave me her direct # 215-286-3418.

So I figure I won't call FCC yet, will leave the phone lines open.

Mohammed from Comcast's regional office just called on my cell. After giving him the boiled down version & discovering I'd been charged for an 'inside line repair' when all the guy did was put on a splitter, Mohammed said he'd take off that $45. And he took down the numbers I've been collecting on Down/Up Stream/Load/Levels & said it looked to him that perhaps a node could be adjusted. I LIVE IN HOPE. Still have to have the guy come out tomorrow to look things over before they make any decision to do anything.

Never GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER! I want one of those t-shirts that says something like that & has a cartoon of an egret swallowing a frog, with the frog's hand reaching out to choke the bird.

If I EVER get net back (and LJ is working) I shall celebrate by posting pretty photos.

A comcast guy showed up TONIGHT. An intelligent man who checked things out and explained that the modem was not getting a proper 'boot file' from Comcast and that they could NOT clear the account and somehow redirect it (I think mainly because they DON'T KNOW HOW) and the only option that would work would be to change over my account to a rented COMCAST owned modem and see if it worked. He said the modem I bought was much better than I needed because the service I had wouldn't go that fast anyway. At least he DID give me the option of testing to see that the rental worked before sticking me with the monthly rental fee. $7 a month.

The dinky COMCAST modem does work and at least if it FUBARS when they send out a tech they can immediately swap it for ANOTHER DINKY.

The tech had a HARD time dealing with the IDIOTS in his own company and had to call several times before reaching his supervisor who shouldn't have had to help, but the run of the mill employees could NOT figure out how to do anything because he wasn't a regular housecall tech and didn't have a 'job number'.

*flumph* I am. So. Very. Tired. I just called to make sure tomorrow's appointment was cancelled so at least I can sleep in.
