EDIT: I just made a direct donation to the Queensland RSPCA. Simpler all around. BUT if anyone on my flist DOES want to donate to one of the three charities linked in the auction in return for me writing a B7 fic, or drawing an animal or sending them some tiny teddies, let me know.

I'm tired and my brain won't let me come to a decision. Bids close on WEDNESDAY- and I'm not sure which way the world rotates so when is that in Australia?

I wanted to get in on the fandom effort to help the victims of the Queensland Flood, but there are practical difficulties. I didn't see anything I wanted to bid on, and the three ideas I had for offers... well...

I could offer to draw a pet/animal (based on a photo the bidder provides) & email a high-res jpg or send the actual drawing. (Minimum $14 postage to Australia, where most of the bidders likely to be from, so is it worth it.)

I could offer the 6 tiny teddies I made for a proposed charity appeal that didn't happen. (Minimum $14 postage for *3* bears to Aust.)

I could offer to write B7 fic, but it doesn't seem at all popular.

If it doesn't seem likely anything I can do is worthwhile, I'll just make a donation to one of the listed charities... but where's the fun in that?

I'm going to donate directly to the SPCA for that reason. There were some items (plushies, amurigumi) that interested me but the existing bids were too high. I could offer more knitwear but decided I'd rather just donate if I couldn't buy.

I think that a direct donation is the best way, yes. You can send even the small sum - which is important given my many.

Have to admit I would... but I already gave to the Queensland Premier's appeal, as much as I could afford...

1) it's currently 6.38am on Tuesday morning in New York, and it's 9.38pm on Tuesday night in Brisbane - so Wednesday (Australia Day) is less than three hours away.
2) I would bid, except that I've already donated to the Premier's Flood Appeal, and also our local Red Heart appeal (for staff of the bank which employs me).

The cat fancy was talking about another virtual cat show, much like the one in support of the Victorian bushfires, but it hasn't amounted to anything. The lady who proposed it - who was a prime force behind the Victorian one - was jumped on from on high by the cat fancy equivalent of a BNF, and all his supporters jumped on the bandwagon. As a result she was disheartened and gave it away, even though she did get encouragement from a lot of people.

*nods* I remember how the cat one got tangled up. I'm getting down on the number of photogenic cats I have, anyway... unless you count plush Webkins (I am getting sucked into that.)

Sorry, but I can't afford to donate anything at the moment - and my family is there! :-D But I would if I could.

Actually, I just popped over to your journal to find out what happened to the hell hounds holding you hostage. Were they collected in the end?

The hellhounds left my yard after about 2 hours. I saw one across the street later that evening, but haven't seen them since, so I assume they got bored and wandered away.

Animal Control never did anything. I suppose if I called back the next day with the confirmation number and said they were still here, I'd have got put on the 'do something eventually' list. Seems they hope if they ignore them, the animal problems will go away.
