feng_shui_house: me at my computer (Default)

I've been putting off cleaning the AC in this room for ages. I finally was made nervous enough by it dripping inside a few inches away from the outlet that I did it. Major project- it took 2 strong men to get it into the wall pretty near my head height, so no way am I hauling it out.

First I was woke up after about 6 hours of sleep by yet another phone call all in Cuban message to vote for a new alcade, I think. Alcade means mayor, if I recall correctly from Zorro (the Disney on TV version many many moons ago).

After grumbling myself to the bathroom mirror, I decided to cut my hair shorter than it's been in 50 years, another thing I'd been putting off for fear of looking like a total bag lady. I was the kind of kid who never even styled Barbie's hair. But hey, I had a couple mirrors and a small sharp pair of sewing scissors. CHOP CHOP CHOP. Is now just about shoulder length.

Then I took the sickly camera and spent half an hour trying to remember how to set it to take timed snaps. Got two pics finally. I may or may not post them later. Depends on how brave I am and whether anyone's interested.

Then I said, 'oh, I can start laundry!' and did that. Then I did all my usual morning stuff, care for cats & wild birds & do yoga & have a cuppa tea, play with webkinz on line, read flist, etc.

Then I said, 'oh, I started to make a fabric design last night, I WANT to do that'. So I fired up Photoshop Elements and spent a couple hours on that. Turned out pretty- fractal flowers that look like moss roses. http://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/654998

Running out of excuses, I began clearing the area near the AC. Found an original story written by a fan-friend I've lost touch with. Re-read it, of course. Sorta magical/medieval Frenchish aristo/scammer & his much smarter peasant companion try to find out who's killing baby dragons- turns out it was their mom because she couldn't rescue them, but the peasant taught the last two to fly and mom took them home.

Moved more stuff. Found DVD movies I haven't yet seen. HEROICALLY resisted watching.

JACKPOT! Found Unopened box containing a Vector-based graphics program meant to work on my current computer. ::Dancing:: At the time I bought it I must have decided it was too much bother to learn a new dealie, since Photoshop Elements is nice and simple. BUT Photoshop Elements is a 'bit-based' graphics program which means all images are made of tiny squares of color and if you change the size you get edges of squares and it's all jaggy. NO ONE who makes that sort of design ever wins a Spoonflower contest. The winners seem to be all Vector-based designs where things stay smooth and sleek and perfect no matter what size they are. I'd looked recently and none of the free/cheap Vector programs would work on my computer. SO, WHEE... I hope I get round to doing it. And that it works.

Then I look out and see gray clouds, decide to hurry. Move stuff without much looking at --oooh, hey my 2006 notebook of the Year Everything Went to Hell including tons of notes of how frantic I was, fascinating in a Thank God I'm not doing That Again way... no, don't get distracted. Go and get a bunch of newspapers to put down on cleared floor.

Stop to look at newspapers. Can't help it. These are 2007 newspapers I'd saved for use as mess catchers during house fixing up after letting the subscription lapse in 2008 because the paper kept spoiling what I liked -the last straw was firing the local columnists & reporters and replacing them by outsourcing to Pakistan. Not to people who came from Pakistan. People LIVING in Pakistan. 1,000's of miles away. I checked, and yes, 'local' article of stuff in my city government, written by a person who's never even been on my CONTINENT & does interviews by email. Ok, fine, I can get news like that from the internet.

So newspaper kept calling me to renew & I kept saying no. Finally, newspaper offered me a $20 cheaper subscription. Made cheaper by eliminating the discount card for expensive shops and restaurants in another city, which I had not wanted and had asked at the time I subscribed 'can't I leave that card off and get the paper cheaper' and been told 'oh, no, everyone gets the card, it doesn't cost anything extra, and there's no lower price'... So I'd paid for 2 years worth of discounts I couldn't use. I told that story to the person on the other end of the phone, who said ...'yes, but you can get the $20 cheaper rate NOW!' And I said. NO.

Anyway, I spread the papers and saw an article on the 12 Cats of Christmas (cats/kittens selected from various adoption places and given 2 full pages with color photos to get adopted). Ok, that... I couldn't put down to get soaked. And then there was a recipe for peanut butter cups which sounded actually possible. OK. That.

Finally, area prepared, AC cover off, everything unplugged, outlets taped over, window opened, bent my 6 foot tall sunflowers. Sorry. I went out and had to tear down the orb weavers web to get to the AC. Sorry. Hose set on jet. PTTOOOMBB. SLIME. EEE EEE EEEE! SLIME!!! EEEE EEEE eEEEEEEEE!!!

*whew* Ok, I think the floor is dry enough I can start putting back the bookcases, etc.

Thank you for reading, or for glancing at the cut and wisely clicking to something else.

Mmm... I finished just in time, it's raining.

I'm glad you have your AC taken care of and the outlets are not wet!

You work hard in your house. I have a lot of picking up and putting things away which I need to get to.
