One day I may splurge and buy a longer zoom. To get these pics I had to be nearly in arm's reach of the butterflies. It takes Ninja Butterfly Whisperer skill to do that. On occasion I have had butterflies brush me with their wings in passing. That is seriously cool.

2 Zebra Longwing butterfly

1 Spotted skipper

4 Sulfurs I think all of different species (possibly a couple are different genders of the same species, I'm not in the mood to check.) I rarely get a chance to photograph the larger sulfurs as they are high-fliers- I can see them flitting along over the tops of large trees very often, but they seldom alight in my yard.
(the dark areas on the back of the wings in the first photo are actually holes, showing the color of the upper side of the other wing.)

No flowers are blooming here; it is too late and has been to hot and dry. Yesterday I saw a yellow butterfly like the one in the 2nd to last photo.

In both of these sets of photos I like the colors in their wings -- such beauty and fragility!

Thank you for sharing :)

It's never too late for flowers where I am-- often it's far too hot and dry, though. Fortunately I had a lot of rain in the past few weeks and the lantanas have responded eagerly.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. :^) I do so enjoy the opportunity to see these lovely creatures.

Love the little flutterers. Ah, flowers--there's always something blooming around here, even though it is dry most of the year.

For me, I found it helps a lot when you learn to accept the 'volunteer plants'. If it lives well enough for birds to spread the seeds, it has a fair chance of blooming *despite* me.
