I'm still struggling to write a fic I started way back when. I got ambitious & it's resulting in OODLES ofprocrastination research in events & trivia, etc. about New York City & the World War II from November 1939 to whenever the heck I can finish this. If I can.
Amusement area of the Fair
I stumbled over this hour long full color, silent, home movie and WOW, the 'Amusement' area of the Fair was full of burlesque, with women either topless or wearing sheer mesh over their bosoms in a LOT of exhibits. Most of which couldn't possibly have any redeeming social or educational aspect no matter how you looked at them. I'm really astonished that so much of the Fair was like a tacky carnival. Did like the penguin exhibit, though. :^)
The Amusement area was the most popular area of the Fair, despite the other areas having some truly remarkable things- great works of art were on display, loaned from collections around the world- there were technological achievements (TV! Electronic voice! Punch Card Calculator! Einstein gave a speech on ... I forget Cosmic Rays?) But the amusement park rides and plenty of near naked women was what got the most audience. There was other ignorant stuff we'd find offensive today, mostly race based, but the overwhelming theme I got was BOOBIES!! LOOK, WE GOT BOOBIES. LOOK AT THEM NIPPLES!
