It's taking a while to sort & fix up pics, so there will be more photos later, possibly today, but more likely tomorrow. Expect iguanas, red shouldered hawk, american redstart, white ibis, and possibly a few squirrel and pony pics from Amelia Earhart Park. There will also be zoo pics, but I've not sorted them yet. A lot of them were blurry cuz I hadn't yet figured out how to change the ISO on my newish camera. Darn. I may have to cough up the $$ to go back to the zoo later this year-- maybe as a birthday present to myself.

The last I heard (2011) the birding authorities have ruled this bird as a separate species from the Common Moorhen found in Europe, and they call it the Common Gallinule. I'm sticking with the 1880's name- 'Florida Gallinule', because I've seen photos of 'Common Gallinule' in other countries and they didn't look *quite* the same to me.

The Limpkin was a surprise to me. Globally, the species is fairly secure, but in the US it only lives in a few areas in my state. It prefers to eat apple snails, which have been greatly reduced by urbanization, etc, but it also likes mussels, which it was hunting while I watched. I was also surprised that the man-made lake in the park had mussels.
