Today's fight against procrastination.
Another layer of wall patch around the AC- getting there! The top and the bottom I think don't need any more, the right side doesn't need much, it's the left side that's still hungry. 12 pound bucket of joint compound nearing empty. Just as well, the fine print on it says the stuff goes bad after 9 months, so there's not point storing excess.
I didn't try go to the Thrift store- last night there was a lot of high wind, and it was still blowing gusty for most of today, which had brought the temperature down quite a lot. So I decided to take advantage to do some digging up and transplanting.
The second cross-stitch pillowcase is coming along nicely, so I'm thinking what should I do next as time filler whilst sitting at the 'puter? In the box where I had the pillowcases I found a dozen Red Heel Socks- I figure I could do the machine sewing and then finish them in here.
Oops, I put both 'cat' and 'kitten' in the poll. They're really the same. And I MEANT to put 'Dachshund' and 'Puppy' which are actually different, only I left off Puppy. If you want Puppy (average dog shape, not long hot dog) please add a comment.
A volunteer lantana plant was a couple feet tall under the loquat tree. I'd been mowing around it but it was never going to do much in the shade & I want more lantana- I miss my huge one that drew butterflies by the zillions. So I dug a hole in the latest dug up bed, dug up the lantana, planted it and watered immediately. It wilted almost immediately. *fingers crossed*
Then I dug up the small bed by the front door- the squarish plot guarded by Bernhard the cement bear. It used to be full of autumn flowering crocus, but they got choked out by weeds and leaves. I'd pulled most of the big weeds a while back, but didn't want to dig up until there was a day when I might be able to save the grass runners in it. (Not grass as most folks know it. So. Fla. is really ground vines that send up blades & never seeds. So the way you replace it is by buying squares of sod- grass vine grown dense and then cut up along with a couple inches of dirt held by the roots. As you can imagine, this isn't cheap, and transporting it adds to the cost, so whenever I dig up grass growing where I don't want it, I try to transplant it. Success rate is... well, sometimes it works. And even if it doesn't work, digging up the weeds and putting in the runners often encourages the few remaining runners. I think the yard has gone from 30% dirt, 65% weed and 5% grass, to 20% dirt, 60% weed and 20% grass. BUT! Most of the weed is currently immature whereas before it was all flowering and seeding.
So I dug up the small bed, and then dug up the 'lawn' nearest it to remove the weeds and replace with the grass runners.
Then I went out back to check on my tomato plants (note to self, waste of time buying expensive tomato seed, I got about 5 plants from a whole packet, did better by buying a tomato in the grocery and seeding it.) Wind had blown a couple of them over, even as small as they are, so I got some strips of rag to tie them to the support branches from the orchid tree, cut back when hurricane Matthew threatened. Maybe they'll live.
Cantaloupe seedlings that were planted are still looking about the same. I'd try to feed them, but they're so small I'm afraid I'd burn them. Pineapple flowers are growing a bit every day. One pineapple salvia is blooming! Pretty red flowers. Marigolds and Zinnias are really crammed in the back recycle bin planters and blooming even though crowded, while other seeds I meant to put in the recently cleared bed don't seem to be germinating at all, after a month. *sigh* I'd got arizona blanket flowers and vinca, both plants I had growing before (but bought as started plants, so yeah.) And I had got strawberry, and 'strawberry spinach' but I'll be blessed if I see anything but weeds in their starter pots. Ah well...

Date: 2017-01-24 08:12 pm (UTC)Today I had to take part in your poll and why have I chosen a donkey? I have seen one recently in somone“s garden and it was such a cutie, the ears and all!:-)
Your lantana reminds me of the days you took the photos and there were butterflies and racerunners for me:-)
Growing ANYTHING in these conditions is really more than difficult.
Take care, dear, and good luck!

Date: 2017-01-24 08:53 pm (UTC)The lantana I transplanted looks terrible today, not just withered, but *crispy*. Ah well...
I went out and watered, but I think I will wait until closer to sunset and try to mow just one part of the yard.
I feel I can watch a DVD and do some cross-stitching for a while.
