Late last week (Thurs? Maybe Friday?) I managed to get through the Hurricane debris pick up phone number to actually talk to a person. I told her (all true) that I hadn't had fresh food in a month, that I don't have a car, that the city had added a cut up tree they had planted to the stuff in front of my house and there wasn't room for a taxi to park. Also the street light in front of my house while still working was hanging down at 90 degree angle so it lit up my yard, not the street.

On Sunday an extension truck came and two workers fixed the light. Yay.

On Monday it was raining, but my shoulder was hurting less than usual, so I called my regular taxi driver to see how he was doing & to verify I had the phone number of the guy he recommended I call when I couldn't get him. Regular taxi guy said he could get me. So YAY, it stopped raining, he picked me up, I got to the store & bought nearly everything I wanted & for once the checkout was fast, taxi guy arrived to pick me up just as they were bagging the last few things, got home and he backed the car (it's a minivan, so takes up more room than a regular car) into the slot left open by my house (Brave man, that left the nose of his vehicle edging out into the road) & we got everything into the house before it started raining again.

So I HAVE FOOD. I have eaten 4 bananas so far (hello potassium, my legs have missed you). YAY.

This morning I woke up hearing trucks and saying to myself 'eh, it's the bin pickup, that's all, and I didn't have enough to put out anyway'.... but it was IN FRONT of my house. So I peered through the blinds. JOY JOY HAPPINESS, a truck was picking up my bigger pile on one side! YAY. Truck was almost full, it had already picked up a fairly small pile belonging to one of my neighbors- the one directly across the street from me.

Truck left without touching my second pile but that was ok there would be room to park, I figured I'd go out later and straighten up, but an hour or so later I heard ANOTHER truck. This one picked up my second pile, and most of the stuff the neighbor next to me on one side had put out. And then the truck left.

They only took tree cuttings, which was reasonable, mixing the load would mean they couldn't take it to be turned into mulch. I had remembered that, and kept a few things I thought MAYBE they'd pick up separate. I went out and tidied up a bit, condensing the not taken stuff into a pile in my usual place. And I looked around.

ONLY ME and the two piles closest to ME got picked up.

YAY, my (true) Sob Story worked!

I'm so happy you have fresh food again.

(If we had a hurricane, we'd be eating nothing but squashes for the next month as the allotment has produced a mountain and every windowsill is fully of squashes and marrows.)

Oh dear, raining after a hurricane - what a joy.
Now you may have heard that the remnants of both the hurricanes went round the Earth and now we are receiving very wild gales of wind which is followed by rain and even snow. There haven“t arrived here yet but the dark clouds signal it. Well, rain is needed but snow? It is to early!!!!!
Stay safe dear!*HUGS*
