So, I had ordered some dry kibble for my cat, but the bag arrived split open in the box. The company was very nice and sent me a replacement. But I wasn't going to bring that mess into the house-- so I put it in a semi-sheltered spot.

And let the wandering neighborhood cats find it. I'm sure more cats than this were involved, but these are the ones I was able to photograph.

It's an ill wind indeed that blows no one any good.

Aw, pretty visitors and very grateful for your food!
Stray animals are mostly hungry here, all restaurants and other similar food-provided places are closed. They used to feed these stray animals with leftovers. Fortunately there are still good people who place some dry food in sheltered places.

I'm pretty sure other people in the neighborhood feed them regularly- I've seen food placed out on sidewalks and front yards.

But a little extra never hurts! :^)

We're so much in the woods that putting out food like that would be more likely to attract raccoons, foxes, and even coyotes than cats. That's a lot of different cats!

There used to be even MORE cats-- one of the tenants living next door to me kept feeding them but not getting any of them neutered. After he left many of them dispersed, but I'm pretty sure I know at least 2 folks still feeding them, but at a more reduced scale.

And someone did take in the calico female to be fixed -trap/neuter/release they clip the top of the ear so you know it's been done.

That's such a good idea - being able to tell the neutered cats *before* you try catching them and bringing them to the vet.

I think she's the prettiest.

The ear-tipping seems to be standard in the US for TNR cats-- at least they did it to cats my brother took in Arizona on TNR. It depends on the area, I suppose, but at the very least, it's widespread.

Usually it's the left ear- supposedly 1 centimeter, but in actuality I doubt they measure it that finicky.

There were a lot of butt-shots. :^) It was fun seeing them go all athletic. Not one of them tried to knock the box over, they all just wanted to get in.

Finally it rained and I tore down the side of the box so the cats could get the remainder in the bag-- good bag, kept it dry even in the rain.

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't think to put proper descriptions on the pics! They're all short-haired moggies.

Cat one is a slinky, mostly black, tuxedo boy with white legs and markings on his face -not that any of that is visible in the picture, he's 3/4 of the way in the box with his back legs on the edge, and his tail in a happy umbrella handle up curve.

Cat two is a white and black Turkish Van marked guy I think of as 'Unclubbable' because... well... he's got black balls...he's mostly white, black tail and aforementioned balls, black oval centered on his lower back, and black on his head in two marks like parted hair- his white is very pure and bright.

Cat three is a mackerel striped tabby calico lady, mostly grayish brown with splotches of red- all the same tabby shapes, just different colors. Her belly, legs and throat are snowy white, and she has a white face marking fairly even over her muzzle and going up in a point on her forehead. Her left ear tip is clipped to show she was a Trap/Neuter/Release kitty. I don't know who in the neighborhood arranged it, but good for them. Too many kittens go hungry in this world.

Cat four is a reddish orange and white tom, with white coming well up on his hind legs and belly and front legs giving him rather the appearance of wearing a too tight coat. His red varies in shade, darker and more vibrant on his back, paler and less red on his head, so pale that it doesn't contrast well with the white markings on his face.

Cat five is a light dull orange mackerel tabby tom, with faded almost white back legs up to the hock and the same color on his front paws. He's a bit dustier and scruffier than the others, too busy being macho to wash.

Awwwww. Hi kitties! I'd pet you all, but considering you're outside/potential or actual TNR cats, that may not be the best idea. I would so snuggle the tuxie and the caliby, if I could get away with it without getting fled from or clawed or both.

The caliby would probably let you snuggle her- she used to approach me hopefully, but no, baby, sorry, I have one house cat, not worth risking a catastrophe. My Natasha hisses if she sees a cat from the window. This is what happens when you name your cat after an assassin. :^)

*grins* I just totally ran with your house cat's name and imagined the caliby as nicknamed Betty Ross. And I see what you did there! Catastrophe. XD See icon for why I now notice and make cat puns way more often than I used to. :)

The little calico is so pretty! What a pity they don't have homes, but they don't look as if they're starving.

Yes, someone (I think at least 2 people) in the neighborhood is feeding them- they weren't at all desperate to get the food in the bag. It was like, 'oh, second dinner, sure, why not'.
