I loved this Coronavirus humor video...
May. 14th, 2020 04:33 pmBut to be fair, some folks would be annoyed by it. It just made me smile.

so sleeeeppy.... I woke up early because I wanted to be certain to put out the package of masks for pick up way early JUST IN CASE... and it's been drizzly rainy all day and V. Blustery.
It's BEFORE hurricane season (officially starts June 1), but there's already a 'disturbance' with a 70% chance of formation into a 'cyclone' within 48 hours. (it's unlikely to head in my direction any more than a strong thunderstorm, but it does not bode well for the actual hurricane season). Eh, what's one more apocalypse this year, right?

The big orchid tree in my front yard has big CRACKS in it- I saw a 'bump' sticking out of the crack the other day, and then the BUMP jumped out and ran up the tree. So it's big enough for a lizard home. If a storm knocks the tree down I don't really care- it's nice for the shade, but the shade kills all the bushes near it, and has kept my fig tree from ever giving me any fruit. If the orchid tree ever died, I would like to buy a banana plant to put in its place... I mean I can LOOK at flowers, but I could EAT bananas.
Yesterday I rescued two drowning lizards from the pool. I didn't realize how well they can swim, until I tried to net them. They put their limbs tight against the body and SLITHER SWAM like snakes, really fast. Normally if I try to touch a lizard it would be off like ZOOOM, but this time when I got the second one out of the net, I put my hand under it to aim it towards a plant, but it just sat there, looking at me with its shiny little eyes, and I though, give it a try, and petted its back with one finger. It didn't seem to mind. Maybe it was cold after its swim.
so tired... finished 8 masks yesterday-- 6 to my friend, 2 to the mail carrier (I expect by this time he's just passing the extras to someone else, which is fine, he did say thanks for them a week ago, so that's good, he wasn't annoyed by it)
got about 20 masks closer to being done...
drew a bulldog, but then ran out of energy to make it into a design...
so tired... must get to bed to nap, but I'd have to get up... bed, why do you not come to me?

Date: 2020-05-14 11:03 pm (UTC)Poor lizards, at least you were around to rescue them! Can you put something in the pool that they can climb onto or out of the pool?
A banana tree sounds tasty!

Date: 2020-05-14 11:19 pm (UTC)The lizards don't jump in the pool very often- it's not worth trying to figure out lizard escape features for the rare occasions they wind up in it.
Huh-- there actually is a product for it--but at $20 per ($25, if you don't have pea gravel for the anchor) and my size pool they recommend I purchase multiples...

Good idea though. If I start getting a lot of critters in the pool, I could probably rig up something- you need a waterproof inflatable, mesh for the critters to climb on, and an anchor. I could prob. botch something up from stuff around the house.

Date: 2020-05-15 08:42 am (UTC)I am so glad that you could save these lizards! As for a small island for unhappy creatures, I am thinking of cork - not that thing for sealing bottles but I believe there are big pieces available - not sure about the price though. And here comes your new business - a baywatch!!!
Take your work easy...don´t let your battery exhaust too much!

Date: 2020-05-15 02:40 pm (UTC)I think I COULD raise a banana plant- the neighbors behind me had one for years (never offered me any, but they looked like lovely perfect fruit) and the plant always looked healthy until they chopped it down.
Natural cork is very expensive because- like so many other things- people have been harvesting it in excess of the source for a long time. I was thinking *IF* I tried to do it, I could just get a small inflatable and cover it in plastic mesh (the kind some kitchen products come in) with some mesh dragging in the water, and a length of mesh going up to a small bag weighted down to keep it on the pool deck. :^)

Date: 2020-05-15 04:30 pm (UTC)I have got LOTS of styrofoam I saved from various packages. I keep it in case I can use it for packing or other purposes. It's not recyclable as far as I know, so reusing it when possible is the best thing you can do with it.
