feng_shui_houseSurprise visit from the roofing company I emailed yesterday. I was expecting an email or a phone call, but I guess they looked at the pics I'd shown and noticed it wasn't raining this morning, so go and examine the situation. Bit nervous admitting him into the house, esp. when. I had to say, 'will you be wearing a face mask'? (I had quickly put on one of my own masks and opened the window a crack to speak to him.) So he went back to his truck and rummaged for several minutes before returning blue-masked.
One roofer. Two roofer. Said it wasn't the roof, but that the windows were letting in the water (not the windows themselves, but the way they're set in the wall there must be fine cracks on top in the cement)-- looking from the outside, I could see the rain-dirt marks going down the wall and then turning to aim at the recessed windows, so yeah, that's got to be less to fix, SOMEHOW, than the roof. SO, then we waited for the 'boss' who was the same guy who, in Jan, made a deflector thingie to keep the rain from coming into my AC, and he said he'd make something of the same sort for the windows- has to custom make them in the shop. So, that's how it stands right now.
I had gone out earlier to dump cat litter & the neighbor on the block behind me (I got to know her because her house number is the same as mine and I kept getting her mail) anyway, she comes by every day to feed the wandering neighborhood cats. I am NOT taking over for her if/when she moves (she's thinking of moving in a few months), sorry cats, can't afford it, I know the more they feed, the more cats there are- even if I could catch for neutering, the vet charged me $300! last time, and the humane society says they do it for free IF you go Trap Neuter Release- brought back to MY HOME and me expected to feed them forever, but I'd have to bring the cats to them & they moved so far away it wound up a VERY expensive taxi ride. So anyway, my days of being the neighborhood cat lady are over.
End ramble--(rainy day make me even more verbose) So, she showed up to give the cats food and water (I do fill bowls of water that the cats can get at, water I can afford) and offered to take me somewhere if I needed. And I remembered the 'stimulate the economy' check that Trump pretended came out of his pocket, and so I asked if she would mind taking me to the bank.
She said sure, she was going somewhere but would be back in a few hours. I wanted to check to see which branches of the bank were open (I do not trust the Drive In- my mother once had the teller OOPS shorted her several 100's cash even though she DID give a slip saying it was taken from the account- LONG AGO, but I remember stuff like that- esp because I sat next to mom and counted the money right there, so we turned around and went in the bank and the manager was all, well it's no big deal, it would have showed up in the count at the end of the day the extra money in the till...no apologies, and hey, you know, EASY fix for the teller, just put the extra money in your pocket and claim the customer made a mistake...) So anyway, I want to do business directly. My usual branch has reduced days, I found on the internet- could not find ANY info on the phone, which is pretty crappy, I think, even when I had the local number, and the menu gave an option to find out the hours of the branch, it just was 'our hours are changed, check on the internet'... DOES EVERYONE have internet? I suppose if you don't have internet, the bank has no interest in giving you any information...
So a further away, but not too far, branch was listed as being open (again, I couldn't call to confirm). Neighbor said that was fine & she took me & I got Trump's filthy lucre deposited to my checking account. The bank had marked 'stand here' spaces, which no one was using, but then, there weren't any lines, so it didn't matter, easy enough to stay well back until one teller was free. Everyone was wearing masks- even the people outside using the ATM, so that's good.
Got home and was too restless to do anything requiring mind work, so I decided to boil some more swatches to make more masks, or maybe something else, some day, boiling shrinks the cotton a bit, and makes it nicer, so it's not a loss no matter what.
It's pouring rain again (It's like a total white out monsoon). I suspect my yard will be growing mushrooms any minute. Thundery a bit... must post this now in case net goes belly up.
Swatches are spinning in the drier. I should iron them.. but do I WANT TO?? Maybe later. Ironing is never fun.

Getting information these days is really a mess. You are right, I feel lost with my ordinary "non-smart" phone withhout internet. People without smartphones probaly don´t exist any more - but what of those numerous seniors who don´t have anything like a PC and are not able to use this technology!
So people there have finally accepted the masks. Good. It can´t do miracles but it does protect.

Date: 2020-05-27 12:43 pm (UTC)The lady who's currently feeding the cats around the neighborhood says she knows of THREE mother cats with kittens (and that's not counting the one I've seen that she doesn't know). So, yeah, that's an exponentially impossible situation.
My phone is a freebie, stupid phone (I had bought the first one from the phone company to use with their 'pay as you go' deal, and when they changed the service years later so it wouldn't work, they let me choose from 3 basic phones to replace it). Theoretically it has internet- at least there's a space that says 'browser' but it's a tiny flip phone and has no keyboard, just number buttons, so each number represents multiple letters - yeah, not really worth the hassle of trying to type in URL!
I guess anyone too poor to own a smartphone apparently isn't even considered, these days.
The area is pretty much of a 'hot spot' so even if the citizens were going to be careless, the businesses are probably being very persuasive-- wear a mask, or you can't come in...
