Lizards, part 2 all Rainbow Lizards
Jul. 13th, 2020 09:24 amI don't really know what they're called- years ago I heard them called skinks which I knew was wrong, skinks are shiny and chubby. Then I saw pictures of them called Eastern Racerunners, which I went with for a while. Recently I saw them called Rainbow Lizards which ok, sounds like a good description.
The young all look similar, mostly brown with yellowish, but the males develop beautiful coloring, with some of them becoming extremely vivid. They all have stripes and dots.
As I've been cutting back the orchid tree I've been trimming and stacking the branches to make a lizard habitat in the back yard (big job, little me, and it's very hot so I mostly would cut 3 limbs and call it a day and recover for a few days before doing more.)
This has resulted in a rainbow lizard population boom. I used to see very few of them, and mostly they were running away from me, but now they hang out in multiples. SO COOL.

This one, I have to say I giggle at the photo- normally the larger males bully the smaller males into running away but this one was acting like a supportive dad. 'Look son, you're good looking, the ladies will love you, don't be shy, go and introduce yourself'... ok, also I'm now having a fandom moment and big lizard is Tony Stark and little lizard is Peter Parker...
