feng_shui_house: Little bug on my hand text Bugger (Bugger)
I'm getting *awfully* tired (literally- the horrible CRACK, CRRRREEEAK of screws moving keeps waking me up) of the ceiling fan in my bedroom slowly preparing to crash down. My bed isn't *directly* beneath it, but I still would probably get whacked by a blade (lightweight wood, doubt it would do me any serious injury) when it comes down. It's been creaking and pulling loose ever since it was put up over a year ago (the previous fan was MUCH lighter, and even that one was slowly working its way down.)

I thought I might be able to reinforce it somehow... but how? Take the blades & light fixture parts off and squirt something up around the housing above the motor? Like what? Liquid nail is strong, but flexible, so it'd still keep moving. Wood putty is rigid, but I don't know if even the strongest grade is up to this job. Hydraulic cement I doubt would hold up to something that vibrates. (I haven't run the fan in almost a year, because I'm even more afraid of it crashing while on.)

Should I simply give up, take the fan down and replace it with a plain light fixture? It's not a very good fan (the new ones are *way* underpowered, the 30 year old one I used to have worked great) but it's new and pretty- and there's no way to put an A/C in my small bedroom...decisions, decisions.

EDIT: The ceiling fan isn't falling due to vibration from running it. I haven't been. It's just dragging down by gravity.

EDIT 2: This looks like what I need.
