feng_shui_house: me at my computer (Regen)

I finally painted the bathtub yesterday. Not a perfect job- I didn't notice drips on the near wall (not visible in the photo) until it was too late to correct.

Dueling Veggie trucks... it was funny - the white truck was parked while customers climbed into the back to make their purchases, and the other guy came up and stopped as if unwilling to encroach on the territory. The white truck belongs to the lady I buy from, the one with dangling bits belongs to a guy I never deal with-- I don't like how loud he tootles his horn.

The tub likes great. I have never seen a truck with fruit and vegetable. We do have something similar, hahaha, it is actually a bus transformed into a self-service shop, but these things are almost extinct because they just can´t earn enough money.
At the moment we would enjoy one, they closed our small shop on 1st January 2009.

I don't know how the veggie truck people stay in business. They can't be making much money. I don't even know how they pay their gasoline costs.

But there are a lot of them! Those two go past my house nearly every day, and often there's another one.

Aha, so they may be in a same situation as our fruit and vegetable growers - they just can´t part with their gardens and orchards and they sell even under that discriminating condition. And you are right, people here can´t get their money back. So sad - and I say it is even criminal because our government let cheap Chinese products in. Alson EU treats us as if we were inferior. Our production is of a high quality but dying.

Our government did the same thing a long time ago- giving Chinese products so much advantage that they destroyed the US steel industry and most major manufactoring. If you WANT to 'buy US made' to support the industry, you can't because everything is made in China. It's *garbage* and it falls apart and is unsafe, but it's all you can get.

Do you know ALL B vitamins and just about all the wheat glutin (which is used in nearly every processed food) are made in China? They don't have to say it on the label, but there it is. That's scary-- the Chinese food industry does a lot of unsafe, even *poisonous*, things, and you can't avoid eating it.

I have to agree with you in all the points! Even honey is imported from China, and our bee - keepers are ruined. They made some quality tests and it appeared that Chinese "honey" was not genuine honey but a kind of "replica"! All had to be removed from the shops but the damage had been done.
I understand that you just can´t be safe, as soon as you choose non-US food... ah damn.*Hugs*

You can't even be safe when you *think* you're buying made in the US food, because 'additives' aren't required to show their origin. I only discovered that recently.

The only thing that's safe is not to eat at all! Wait. There might be a problem there. :^)

Good job on the bath! How did you paint it? Spray can?

Date: 2009-03-22 07:49 pm (UTC)

Nope, I used a good-quality bristle brush. I did at least 4 coats, waiting an hour in between each coat (each painting took about half an hour). The 2-part epoxy paint can't be stored, so I got a little carried away. :^)

The paint can be sprayed, but a brush is cheaper than a sprayer. I can't stand the smell of the solvents to clean that paint, so I put the brush into a plastic bag wrapped tight around it in between coats, and it stayed flexible enough for me to finish- then I threw out the brush.

The tub looks good. Another chore to mark off on your seemingly endless to-do list.

Fresh veggies from a farm?

The veggies are nothing special- usually they're about the same quality as the grocery store- sometimes worse. I figure they buy a big bag at a warehouse and repackage it.

Haven't seen produce trucks since I was a kid; of course, then they were filled with things the people had picked from their own gardens and were fresh and mostly organic.

It came with the major Cuban influx of the Mariel boatlift in 1980. Apparently street vendors were very common there, and they got things set up in So. Fla. the same way.

The vendors sell lots of stuff- nearly all of it things they buy cheap in bulk and then repack for retail. Like wilted flowers, and raw shrimp sitting in melted ice for hours, and bottled water, and peanuts in paper cones, and some kind of sausages... if you go down the main street there can be vendors waving stuff at you from every intersection.

I don't think I've ever seen any of them selling something they grew or made themselves.

Wow...

There used to be ice cream trucks, too. They had the most AWFUL music to announce themselves- I haven't seen one in a long time. I speculate that no one could get close enough to the trucks to buy anything. :^)

Yup...

add the doppler effect & it was always terrifying, particularly if there was more than one @ a time.
