I worked on it for a half an hour last night, and only saw a spaceship on top of a podium surrounded by radiation waves with a staircase leading up to it. My Freud only kicked in after I had it ready to post. :^)

I suspect because smoking a cigar the first time is disgusting and it was a touch of macho pride to be able to do it without being sick. Also because they were always expensive and it was a way of showing how you could afford to literally burn your money and throw it away.

Before they brought the disgusting habit back from Spain it was snuff or clay pipes.
Its odd to think that in the early days only men smoked cigars and then only outside, or around the dinner table when the port was brought out and not in front of the women.
