7 Things
I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] kalinda001
Meme:

1. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
2. Tag seven people to do the same.
3. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1. I respond poorly to orders. This explains why I am ignoring #2 and #3.

2. I do enjoy answering silly questions like this, but I hate making them up for other people.

3. Google is my boyfriend. His rivals, Photoshop and Fractal Domains, try hard to win me over, though with bright presents and cheerful smiles.

4. I have always bitten my fingernails. I used to consider this a sign of moral weakness until I discovered it was one of the many markers of Asperger's syndrome, so I have decided this is like a secret club handshake & all I have to do is look for bitten fingernails, and observe in order to find other people who will have the same social instincts I do. However, as one of our social instincts is to avoid looking directly at other people, I keep forgetting to do this. No plan is perfect.

5. I have so many needlecraft/assorted craft books and magazines that I'd have to count them by linear footage. Which I'm too lazy to do... at least 12 feet. You do not want to know the sheer mass of crafting supplies I have. Think in terms of 2 rooms full.

6. I believe in Magic. Not that it exists, but that it *should* exist in real things, like rainbows, caterpillars, tadpoles, fractals, etc.

7. I believe that a day that goes by without creating *something* is a sad loss in your life. The creation may be an idea, an accomplished task (creating a clean kitchen definitely counts), a plan laid out, or an actual thing.

*looks at own mutilated nails* Ooooh, I'll have to remember that. I thought it was just a family trait....

Amen.

There's a whole list of associated traits that seem to have no relationship- like...sleeping with several stuffed animals on your bed, having difficulty learning to navigate stairs, poor depth perception (not to do with your eyes, but getting your brain to figure it out), generally learn to read very young and very quickly, often are obsessed with one (or more) subject/hobby/discipline to the point of becoming expert at it (a lot of us are SF geeks/ Media fans, but the obsession can be *anything*)- often we become such experts that the interest can become a livelihood, etc.

Being Asperger is having different strengths and weaknesses to most people. You have to learn to make the most of the one, and minimize the other.

Yeah, most of those I was familiar with, but the nail-biting, stairs, and stuffed animals were new to me (as symptoms, as personal quirks I'm very familiar with them). It's nice to know I'm typical.... ;)

I like to think I'm doing okay on that score.

We're typically Atypical. I sometimes think Avon might be one of us.

...my god, that would make a frighteningly large amount of sense.

I bite my nails too... seriously. Some times so seriously that they tear a little, which makes typing NOT fun and gets no sympathy from anyone.

The creation may be an idea, an accomplished task (creating a clean kitchen definitely counts), a plan laid out, or an actual thing. Or a list. I'm good at lists :)

Lists *breed* in my presence. They have entire extended families.
