I have nearly 30 pics of England (mostly London) to put up, so I'm dividing them and putting no more than 2 posts a day. Then I have 16 pics of Rome and I'll be caught up-- until I look at the rest of the slides! I'm pretty sure I took most of these- dad had no interest in pretty horses, beautiful men, statues, or architecture.)

Scots Guards outside Buckingham Palace

I love the gates of Buckingham Palace.

And the fountain

You know what surprised me most about these photos? Just how little things have changed, the sky line is the same, the fashion is a little different but not a lot since retro is in. It's the police man who has changed most. The radio has changed to something a lot more compact and they are routinely seen in knife proof vests now but that's all (http://pressbox.co.uk/images/logos/52639_Torch-3843.jpg)

OOh, that's a very pretty policeman... Well, I do have one thing planned to post tomorrow that I'm pretty sure is gone. The double-decker buses have been eliminated, haven't they?

Not entirely, the classic rear entry London double deckers have gone the way of the dinosaur and been replaced by bendy buses, there are a few ultre modern double deckers used on some routes. Pictures of both types can be seen Here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buses_in_London

Ah, that article says the Bendy buses are being removed. Not sure what will replace them.

I will believe that when it happens, it would cost too much to replace their capacity with normal buses. Miracles do happen though.

That's one of the things I love about England. They build with an eye to the future and also keep as many traditions going as possible. Where I am, it's common for a 20 year old mini-mall to be torn down only to build another mini-mall just as ugly as the first one. And very few traditions are maintained by the government.
