As often happens, I set my alarm and woke up half an hour earlier, mostly because I hate loud, sudden noises, and my subconscious wanted to protect me. I'm not honestly expecting the Orkin man to show up- when I called the 800 # I was not filled with confidence by the woman who answered (If a customer says 'I'm calling to set up an appointment for an inspection and estimate for termite tenting', replying with 'Oh, we don't give estimates over the phone' does not speak well for your logic. Also it's not a good idea to say 'hold on a moment while I check our schedule' and then say NOTHING for four minutes, and when the customer finally says 'hello, are you still there?' reply testily with 'yes, I am, hold on a moment' and leave them hanging for another four minutes before informing them that the computer system is slow today. But I'll be fair, I got a 9am-11 time-slot & it's only 9:30am. Maybe he'll show.

In the meantime, have some pretty pictures.

EDIT: Orkin guy just called to confirm appt. and say he'll be here between 10:30-10:45. I hope so.

So many of our call centres are located overseas now. The people there come a lot cheaper, but (naturally) have less than fluid English, and they often work from prompt screens. This is fine until *you* depart from *their* script, and the conversation can go rapidly pear-shaped at that point.

And have you tried using a meditation alarm? They use a chime, starting very low and gradually increasing in volume until you notice it, but without triggering an adrenaline explosion.

The woman I spoke to had a Deep South US accent (I'm not an expert, but I think Georgia), so her problem was single-mindedness.

I never heard of a meditation alarm!... Sounds cool, let me see...$180!! Erm... no, I don't think so.

It may still be worth looking around to see if they come cheaper. That was just the first one I fell over when I started looking.

I very rarely need to get up earlier than I would naturally wake, so it's not really worth while.

Back when I had a schedule like normal folks, going to school, I always woke a minute before the alarm, so it didn't bother me. Weirdly enough, if I forgot to turn it on, I'd over sleep, but I almost never heard it when I did have it set.

I'm not *sure* but I think that butterflies has their first pair of legs up in front of its face. I often see only 4 legs on a side view of a butterfly & wondered what happens with the other 2 legs.
