Mac Connection's sales woman had assured me this was the right one to connect my desktop iMac5,1 to my MacBook Pro. Then a 'computer glitch' canceled the order, so I reordered it. It came yesterday. I opened it & the plugs don't fit.
EDIT: Just got a callback- they're second day airing it today at no cost to me, so it SHOULD get here on Thursday.
Called MC and was directed to a woman who looked up my record by my name & zip & said she'd credit my card & I could throw away the cable, but she couldn't order me a new one because she didn't know what the proper one would be. So she transferred me to a tech who used my name & zip to see what computers I had and he said, 'oh, you need a 6-pin to 6-pin', and he transferred me back to sales.
Marie, Ext. 33768, said there were no records under my name and zip code (so how did the others using the same computer network find it?), and she couldn't order the cable because the tech had made no notes & hadn't given me the item number (I said 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire, but that wasn't enough). So I found the order number from the invoice on the wrong cable and she found the laptop which I'd just bought in Jan. and I told her what my desktop is. Then on hold while she talks to a tech and finds out that it should be a 6-pin to 6-pin.
She tells me the price and I tell her I need it before Friday morning, but I don't think I should have to pay for delivery, after the problems were all caused by them and none of my fault. She says she can send it free ground- 4-5 business days. I tell her that's too long. She says, you originally had ground delivery. I said, yes, on the 12th, when I had enough time, before your company canceled the order on me. It was your salesperson who assured me this was the right cable (she didn't ask anyone in technical for assistance.) or I'd have it now.
I said if I didn't have to be out of the house Friday morning for termite tenting, I wouldn't mind waiting, but that's my deadline. Can I talk to someone who could authorize free air delivery?
She put me on hold again, and finally came back to say she'd take my phone number and *try* to get back to me. I asked for a time frame- are you likely to get back to me today? ermm... maybe. If you don't get back to me today, I'll call again. How can I reach you directly, so I don't have to repeat the whole story again? Whereupon I got her extension.
*sigh* THIS is why I am paranoid.
I'm pretty much giving up hope of getting it before I go. I have the passwords to my webmail & LJs on a text note on the laptop. Provided the hotel actually has the in-all-rooms-wireless-internet I hope to be able to be on the net on Friday & Saturday.

Date: 2009-01-20 07:59 pm (UTC)I don't remember any place near the hotel that might have internet access, but then I haven't been past it in several years.
