1) Have got the pool drained and slime removed.

2) Have called my electrician friend & he says he'll take me to buy the pool light & housing some time next week. He wants to know the name of the Orkin guy because he needs to have his house tented.

3) Have gone through the phone book & noted 13 possible firms on the basis of a) says renovation/repair and b) has an ad larger than the plain text (hopefully indicating a good-size firm) and c) says it's licensed.

4) Will be to look on-line to verify they are licensed and check out the Better Business Bureau for complaints. Remove any that fail to pass this test.

5) Will be to call each. I've a chart with 1-13 on it & boxes for likely outcomes. I expect some won't answer at all, some will let me leave a message, some will answer & say they can't take the job , and a few will make appointments. If I actually get to talk to a person, verify that estimates are free even if I don't hire the firm. (Note, must look up vet appt for Tara and make sure I don't conflict.)

6) Any that get as far as appointments, call the county to confirm that they are insured and licensed and haven't complaints lodged against them.

7) Companies that don't show up on time, or whose representative arrives in a beaten-up car with no company logo on it, are unlikely to be reliable. Still worthwhile to get estimates to use as leverage.

NOTE: I only got as far as completing #3 because my eyes have gone funny- sort of swimming refraction pattern in gold/silver translucent overlay, which makes reading the screen difficult. I think I will have a snack & lie down for a bit before continuing. Thank heaven for touch typing or I couldn't have easily done this post.

Later on, when I'm back to normal, I will prob. be posting photos of fun stuff, like slime and birds and butterflies...
