Stainless steel is actually rather delicate.
The third pool guy said his folks wouldn't clean my old pool ladder because using the 'd powder'(what first guy said he'd use) will ruin the chromium finish & then the steel will be susceptible to corrosion, so I should take it to a *professional* stainless steel polishing place (oh, it won't cost much, he blithely said). He also said the pool repair job would cost more than $20,000 and would only have a 5-year warranty on the finish, vs 10 years with first guy.
First guy, with his $17,600 price sounds like the winner. I am going to wait until Wed. to tell him, just so I'm certain in my mind. 2nd guy *said* he'd get an estimate to me *last* Wed. I figure if you can't be on time to give the estimate, you certainly aren't going to be on time to do the work once you've got my signature on the contract.
Googling got me a how-to article on cleaning stainless steel & I've been working on the pool ladder. It's SLOW. You start with the least abrasive, and work your way up, as your patience gives out. I've worked on it about 2 hours so far and think I could have a profession as a thief, as I no longer have fingerprints.
I *want* to be doing fun stuff, rats! *sigh* But I can't relax & do major sewing/crafting just yet. I found yet another ant access around the pipe to the back yard faucet. More tile adhesive ought to fix that.
I need to go to Home Depot to get stuff to fix the window. Maybe I'll get some floor tiles to redo the yellow bathroom while I'm there.
I feel like the Roman orator who ended every speech with 'Carthage must be destroyed'... Ehouse must be fixed!

Date: 2009-02-14 02:05 am (UTC)It's not so bad as I made it sound. I bought a couple of hollow-handled sponge scrubbers today & they help a lot. It's just tedious and boring and my mind keeps wandering to other things I should be doing.
