*sigh* I had hoped Tara had reduced her extracurricular activities to the outside doors and the wall near the litter box. But... I napped and kept waking up, sniffing. Finally I got up and tracked it down to a pillow I'd made by embroidering a sketch I'd made of a cat I loved on rough brown cloth and even made a ruffle around it. I loved that pillow... *sigh*

Scroll down this page a bit & you'll see how the pillow used to look.

I've now borrowed one of the ZAP mats from the Flist Guest room couch and put it on my bed. Tara is why I keep the Flist Guest room door shut at all times. I don't want her wrecking the sofa bed. I had two scat mats on it just in case I forgot and left the door open. I'll just have to not forget, that's all.

That's lovely; almost Oriental in its simplicity. Can you wash it?

Unfortunately, no. This is about the third time she's hit it. I took it apart the first two times when she hadn't got it *very* badly and washed it, but a stain remained no matter what I did. This time it was ground zero and nothing to do but walk it out to the trash bin.

You know... knowing me, I wouldn't be surprised if I still have the sketch (and probably the transfer paper) somewhere. Maybe someday it'll turn up and I'll redo it.

It looked nice. No way to save it?

Alas, no. In fact, by this point, the embroidery was beginning to rot and break. *sigh* Well, one less thing to pack when I move.

Well you have the image to remind you I'm sure if the original sketch is no longer extant you can use the Photo to reproduce it.
Cats are aggravating when they do that.

I'm pretty sure I'd seen both the original sketch and the transfer when I was sorting through stuff during the bedroom painting reshuffle.

It was all done with the same simple outline stitch, so it would be simple to recreate something at least similar. Some day. Maybe when Tara has passed on. She's still skinny, and not 'right' despite months of twice a day pilling, so I don't know if she'll be with me when I move.

I've had a lot of cats over ...47 years? And Tara is the only one who's been like this. I'd had male cats who sprayed before they were neutered, and a couple females who would occasionally have problems (which I had a remedy for that always worked), but Tara...Then again, before Tara I *never* had both male and female house cats at the same time. There were a few times I had only male cats, but mostly I had only females.

I think some female cats simply become territorial when they have to share quarters with males. If I ever get to the point of taking in new cats, I'm going to make sure they're all female.

You are an experienced and loving cat-keeper. Well, cats are strong individuals, aren“t they?

Of all the cats I've known, I can't say any two were alike in appearance or personality or abilities- not even the three black tomcats I've had. (Midnight, Satan Schiza, and Tommy.)

That was fun--I love needle work, but never end up making it into anything. You do such intricate and pretty things. Sorry the kitty was ruined; it was very beautiful. Hope you can do another.

Making stuff into pillows isn't too hard, and it's nice to be able to display your work in a semi-useful way. Even when it gets wrecked. :^)

I hope I get 'round to making another one. I quite liked that-- although I remember being annoyed that I didn't get the pillow *quite* round.

It was a wonderful pillow.

It will make a beautiful memory. It reminds me of our kitty Miranda. She would curl up into just such a stripey ball. In fact, I have a round picture frame here on my desk, containing a picture of her IN the "kitty ball." They can be frustrating, but they SO enrich our lives.

Ginger was a sweet cat. She loved to curl up in the top of my typewriter case whenever I was using the machine. (Ummm...what 40 years ago??)

Precocious child...
