Naart Day 26
Aug. 26th, 2009 12:15 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Day started off productive- did my laundry & pulled weeds (need to do LOTS of yard work, but it's been raining today) & sealed up with tile adhesive yet more ant-holes in the tile under the kitchen cabinets, found a bunch of vintage embroidery patterns opened the gate packages to check the contents (v. poor quality as expected, but should be usable, once assembled & patched with wood putty & varnished & possibly I can add extra wood in a decorative/strengthening way) & checked the pool water (the only parameter that's low is the free chlorine (I suspect they sold me a chlorine generator too small for the pool I run it 8 hours a day & it's still low- I should be able to add algicide now that ph is right) & every time I leave this room I take something out with me to clear working space), but now am getting sleeepy.... no, no... stay awake. Work. You must work or you'll never get to paradise.
I'm rethinking sending the Canon back for tweaking after comparing all the photos I took with it & the old one yesterday. Yesterday I stumbled over a clue in the manual and set it to 'Center Autofocus' (the default was 'Face Autofocus- stupid idea, as Center works well on nearly everything, including people, and Face only works well on people). So now the only time it is noticeably poorer than the old Canon is on short-distance closeup zoom (unfortunately, that's the thing I really wish it was good at). I suspect it's simply not designed for that (traded off improved long-distance zoom for poorer close-distance zoom) & sending it will be pointless & costly.
Mmm... maybe coffee would be a good idea...
After midnight last night (so it counts for today) I decided to try out the technique one of our Naartists has done, where you make a sort of random doodle, then try to accentuate the doodle to form an image. I did go a bit beyond that by adding facial details and markings, because I wanted to be sure it wouldn't be rejected from the Million Giraffe site.

Date: 2009-08-26 06:04 pm (UTC)I found more free vintage embroidery patterns on Flickr. These are similar, but I don't think any are duplicates.
