After giving up on getting through to the NY tax folk. I got a call from the realtor & I wrote a brief note to the new owners, and went out to the mailbox. Mail had come. Including an overdue bill for the NY power CON ED! I'd paid that. I got out my checkbook and found the number of the check, and then called the bank & used the automated service to find the day it was cleared- Dec. 22.

I tried all three numbers on the bill. It took me 15 minutes just to find a way to get on the hold line for speaking to a person. They had so many options for every little nit-picking thing, including a lot of programs they were trying to harass customers into joining. I put it on speakerphone with the volume turned all the way up, and turned off the A/C so I could hear the 'all representatives are busy assisting other customers, we will be with you as soon as possible' along with their helpful tips on keeping your house warm... ok, after 12 min I got someone who said it's ok, we got the payment.

Yeah, and you sent the late payment notice on the 29th! A week after the check *cleared*. That really stinks. My next phone bill will have an hour or more of long-distance on it for all this FUN.

Now I'm jittery...mmm... deep breath...relax... visualize Avon smiling.... visualize me bringing my chocolate covered paintbrush over to see if Avon's ticklish...

I'm over my phoning quota. I also called the grocery store to see about getting me a new discount card (Ken threw it away because we liked another store better, but that one's further away, so I've gone back to these people, and while I can still get the discounts without the card I have to give my phone number each time. Turned out I needed to do it on the website, which I was on, but hadn't seen the pale blue box with white lettering.

Am still jittering. I have a cat on my lap. That will help.

Argh I hate having that. Don't these people ever talk to each other? Sheesh. *hugs*

According to the realtor whenever I'd run into something like this, he'd always say it takes MONTHS for things to be updated. It's ridiculous.

Now my throat is sore again. I am not making any more phone calls today.

MONTHS??? That's ridiculous! Do these people not work in the same building? City? Planet?

My gut feeling is that a large percentage of NY employees do NOT work, but simply show up, chat on the phone, pretend to type, and then collect a paycheck.

Their bureaucracy seems about as slow and inefficient as the US government's.

A small consolation - it´s the same here :-)

Thank God I don't have to deal with phone calls like yours.

I booked our holiday today. I phoned instead of doing it on-line because they didn't have the ferry crossing that we wanted on their web site while it was on the ferry company site. When I told this to the young lady taking the booking she pulled the ferry site up on her computer, agreed with me and got someone else to add it to their system so that she could book us onto it.

Before I had your tales of woe I had imagined that the US was efficient and basically honest. I don't know how you cope.

I firmly believe that one result of people voting an idiot in as Head of State has been a trickle-down effect making incompetence and laziness laudable.

Things were never perfect and smooth-running but boy have they degenerated. People trying to deal with the US gov. to get passports or alien residency cards have been particularly skrud, with *unbelievable* wait times and foul-ups.

What an aggravating start to the year - your patience amazes me.
I have a cat on my lap. That will help. Having a CompletelyAutomaticTranquilizer on one's lap ALWAYS helps! On the other hand visualize Avon smiling... maybe not so much! ;P

That would be scary... if they know what's good for them, they'll run.
